Istanbul - Hippodrome

The Hippodrome was once used for chariot races, royal celebrations, and bloody massacres.  Today it's a lovely park in the middle of the old part of Istanbul.  At one point 40 rows of seats accommodated 100,000 onlookers.

Now all that remains from the ancient times are several obelisks, columns, and fountains.

And while you will be harassed by people trying to sell you perfume, at least you don't have to worry about being massacred.
